Understanding Your Expenses

Every expense you log answers one question: where did my money go? Here's how Budgett sorts your spending and warns you before you go over.

🗂️Categories and Sub-categories

  • Every expense goes into a category (like Utilities) and a sub-category (like Electricity).
  • You set a budget on each sub-category. They add up to the category's budget.
  • Some categories say Paid instead of Spent, like bills and debts. It means the same thing: money that left your account.
  • Hide, reorder, or add categories in Profile → Manage Categories.

🧾Logging an Expense

  • Tap + at the bottom of the app (on Budgett Web, Log money), or open a category and tap ⊕ next to a sub-category.
  • Every expense needs a Paying Account: Cash on Hand, a Savings account, or a credit card. That account goes down by the amount.
  • Change the date if you're logging something from another day. Add a note if it helps you remember.
  • Something you pay every month? Budgett asks if you want to add it as a Bill.

🔮Projected Spending

This is the number to watch. Projected Spending = what you spent so far + bills you still have to pay this month. It tells you where you'll land by month-end if nothing else changes. Budget Variance is your budget minus Projected Spending. Positive means you're on track. Negative means you're heading over.

⭐Your Essentials

Essentials are the categories you always spend on, like House, Utilities, and Grocery. Pick yours in the Spending tab. Budgett tracks them on their own, so you can see how much of your money goes to needs and how much to wants.

🚨When You Go Over Budget

Categories that go over show in red, and the Categories Over Budget list puts the biggest overage first. Tap one to see the exact expenses that pushed it over.

✏️Fixing a Mistake

  • Basic: delete a wrong entry within 24 hours and log it again.
  • Plus: edit or delete entries up to 3 days old.
  • Pro: edit or delete entries up to 12 months old.

Log expenses the same day. It takes seconds, and your Projected Spending stays true. Logging a week later turns budgeting into guessing.

Try this now

Open the Spending tab and look at Projected Spending. If it's higher than your budget, open the top category and see which expense you can cut this week.
