Set Up Budgett in 10 Minutes
You don't need to enter your whole life on day one. Do these few steps in order, and Budgett starts working for you right away.
Step 1: Pick Who You Are
When you first open Budgett, it asks what fits you best: VA / Freelancer, Self-Employed / Business Owner, Employee, or Family Manager. This changes the words the app uses. A VA sees "Client", an employee sees "Employer". You can change it later in Profile.
Step 2: Follow the Getting Started Card
- On Home, you'll see a Getting Started card with a short checklist. Tap any step to go straight to the right screen. The guide Your Getting Started Checklist explains every step.
- Each step checks itself off when you really do it. The card goes away once everything is done.
- You can tap HIDE to shrink it while you work. It comes back with SHOW.
Step 3: Add Where Your Money Is
Go to Budget โ Savings and add your first account: a bank, an e-wallet, or anywhere you keep money. Type its real balance today. Then add money to Cash on Hand, the cash in your wallet. You can Cash In from a Savings account, or type your cash amount in Profile.
Step 4: Add Your Income
Log the money that came in this month. Do this before you log expenses. If you don't, Budgett will think you spend more than you earn and warn you for no reason. See the guide How to Manage Your Income for the details.
Step 5: Log One Expense
Tap the + button at the bottom of the app (on Budgett Web, Log money), or open a category and tap โ next to a sub-category. Type the amount, pick where the money came from, and save. That's it. Already keep a list somewhere else? Upload it instead: paste it as plain text. Budgett sorts it into categories, and you check every line before anything is saved.
Step 6: Set a Budget for One Category
Pick one category you spend on every month, like Grocery, and set how much you plan to spend. Start with one. Seeing how it works on one category makes the rest easy. You can also upload your whole budget plan as plain text.
Step 7: Add One Bill
Set a due date on something you pay every month, like electricity or internet. Any sub-category with a due date becomes a bill on its own. See How to Manage Your Bills next.
On Basic, you start with 8 core categories. Add your Full Name in Profile to unlock 2 more, and a Display Name to unlock 2 more. Both unlock on their own, free.
Open Home now and tap the first unchecked step on your Getting Started card. Ten minutes from now, Budgett will already know where your money is.
